puddle of red fox fur —
sleeping vixen
so many dreams
beneath your paws . . .
teach me, old friend,
how you never grow tired
of the chase

without current news
or gifts of dead game
I am honored
with your dreams wrapped
around my cold feet
fenced vine-
the fox moon

a deer finds a meal
in the front yard

silent in snow.

red fox moon …
the slow run of a rabbit
down his burrow
sleeping
yet still listening
to wind whispers
dreaming…

turn red
purring in his sleep —

of a cat
pronounced dead
at 10 p.m. . . .
how can I complain
when he has outlived
the nine lives of a cat
twilight…
sleeping cats
